Achieve.org – United States Education Reform Non-Profit

Achieve.orgAchieve was established in 1996 by corporate leaders and governors in the United States as a bipartisan, independent, non-profit organization for education reform and Achieve.org is where their work and progress is detailed online. The goal at Achieve is to help individual States to raise the academic bar including standards and graduation requirements by strengthening accountability and improving assessments. Achieve is based in Washington, DC and they can be contacted at their mailing address, by phone, fax, Facebook, and through the contact form available through Achieve.org.

In 2005, Achieve launched the American Diploma Project Network. The goal of the network, (which now includes 35 states and almost 85% of all public school students in the United States) is to ensure that college and career readiness is made a priority. State education officials, governors, postsecondary leaders, and businesses executives all work together through the program in order to improve the postsecondary preparation of students nationwide.

Visitors to the Achieve.org website may sign up for their email list. Subscribers receive the Perspective bi-monthly e-Newsletter from Achieve via email. The newsletter is free and provides links, news, and other information for folks interested in helping ensure that students in the United States are prepared for success.

At Achieve, they believe that student achieve what is expected of them. If parents and educators are not expecting enough from the nation’s young people, then those young people are going to have a harder time achieving the results they need in order to succeed in the world today. Achieve states that nearly two-thirds of new jobs already require at least some postsecondary education and experts are convinced that percentage will keep increasing in the future. Achieve.org also states that 88% of students noted that they would work harder if their school set higher standards, demanded more of them, and raised expectations, which is precisely what Achieve aims to accomplish.
