Citizendium.org – The Reliable Wikipedia

Citizendium.orgThe fight for wiki perfection continues with Citizendium, the citizens’ compendium of everything. Citizendium is actually a project started by Wikipedia’s creator.

It’s an attempt to develop a better Wikipedia by use of oversight. The current Wikipedia as we know it, has taken some flack for its unreliability—anyone can implement changes anonymously. Citizendium requires that all editors use their real names. Contributors work under the guidance of real experts; however, the non-experts, the authors are still the people who drive the project. The goal is to have hundreds of thousands of articles—to be an encyclopedia of everything. Of course, the look and feel of the site mimics that of Wikipedia. What it lacks currently is number and breadth. You can join now to help expand Citizendium into a truly comprehensive and reliable encyclopedia of the people.

Citizendium.org In Their Own Words

“The Citizendium (sit-ih-ZEN-dee-um), a “citizens’ compendium of everything,” is an open wiki project aimed at creating an enormous, free, and reliable encyclopedia. The project, started by a founder of Wikipedia, aims to improve on the Wikipedia model by adding “gentle expert oversight” and requiring contributors to use their real names. We have over 1,000 articles and hundreds of contributors. But we will avoid calling the Citizendium an “encyclopedia” until the project’s editors feel comfortable putting their reputations behind that description.”

Why Citizendium.org It Might Be A Killer

Citizendium has a noble cause. Wikipedia is extremely popular, but again, it’s been proven to lack in the accountability and truthfulness departments. If Citizendium can become the reliable Wikipedia, it could replace Wikipedia altogether.
