Jahoot.com – Searching The Social Web

It seems to me a new search engine revolving around the socialsphere sees the light every day. Obviously, there is a demand for such tools, as there are more social services nowadays than facial expressions in a movie starring Jim Carrey.

That huge quantity of services goes hand in hand with a massive number of users, and the hot topics change by the hour. That is why search engines like Jahoot (which crawl the social web in real time) prove to be necessary.

Explaining how this work in fine detail is unwarranted. All you need to know is that you have your input box and a list of social services at the bottom for you to circumscribe any search that you conduct.

I notice that the hottest terms of the hour are not highlighted on the main page. I think that is a noticeable omission, and if I were the programmer I would add them as soon as possible. Other than that, the system works fine and it does what it sets out to do quite well.

They let you have access to only the crème of the crème as regards the stories and items featured on the Web. In the specific case of Chromomulator, it takes the top 100 Google searches at any given time by glancing at the Google Trends page, and complements it with information retrieved from Digg and Technorati. Using this information it produces a list of the hottest and most noteworthy online content around.

This list is split in two, and featured on the left-hand side of the main page (from 1 to 50) and the right-hand side of the screen (51 to 100).

As it was to be expected, you can follow Chromomulator on Twitter and ensure that real time information will be transmitted in as much of a real time setting as possible. Of course, you can also subscribe to the provided RSS feed and digest the information in as setting that seemed to resemble a report to me.
