It was founded on the back of a placemat and has evolved into a non-comprehensive guide to everything. The magazine exists to take the raw creativity of strong writers and temper it with good sense, good taste, and the spirit of responsible journalism. They invite anyone interested to join them, by contacting the people listed at the website, or by submitting a story pitch. Those who contribute five or more pieces that are published become “staff writers,” and remain on the masthead so long as their newts piece is less than six months old. The Flak Magazine is a group of writers, editors, and web designers committed to the common goal of reviewing and criticizing art and media and the contexts in which they are produced. They believe that mainstream criticism and opinion journalism all too often take a back seat to advertorial boosterism and ideological pandering, that is why it is dedicated to criticism, non-commercialism, open enterprise, quality, and community. You can search the website by its many categories located in the middle of the homepage. These categories are features, opinion, books, film, misc, music, TV, and games.
