UptimeRobot.com – Minimizing Downtime Easily
Minimizing downtime is the one thought that no webmaster can wipe away from his mind. That has nothing to do with being obsessives, they are just counting the chickens that they have hatched.
You don’t build a successful store only to have it closed at random, do you? It is the same with websites. Fortunately, there are endless sites that will let webmasters attend to their sites and their statuses.
Uptime Robot is one such resource. Using it, anybody can monitor up to 50 websites and receive alerts both by email and by SMS should something go astray. Both http and https are supported, and every website is monitored in five-minute intervals. The status codes are retrieved, and if there is a problem the system will conduct a series of checks before sending out an alert.
Future additions will include notifications via Twitter and RSS, so that will be even more bases covered.
Hopefully, the service will continue being a free one as it is right now. The programmers are making a point of doing so, and up until August of 2010 it can be used at no cost.
