4 Tools That Make Payments (From Anywhere) A Breeze

by The Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC)

Question: What online payment services are changing the way you conduct sales and business when you’re on the road?

1. Square Stops the Paper Chase

Square is excellent at helping you to get paid, and get paid on time. There’s nothing worse than following up, than re-following up, then waiting for a check to come in the mail. With Square – or something similar – you can get paid, and get paid today. We recently moved from Square to an online credit processing handled through our bank, which is even better, as processing fees are slightly less, and the money is instantly transferred to our account (Square holds all large payments for 30 days). Square has paved the way for simple online credit processing, in a sleek and easy-to-use UI. Things will only get better, faster, and more efficient from here.”

2. Chargify Makes Us Money Overnight

“I love Chargify because I wake up to payments receipts for successful credit card transactions that ran automatically while I was away or asleep. It’s an amazing feeling. Their user interface is relatively easy to use, their API makes their service even more flexible, and the integration that it offers are unparalleled. For example, I run a lot of my business using Wufoo forms and Chargify easily plugs in with them so I can capture a client’s credit card information via our sales team or directly from the clients. Chargify took literally five mins to setup with our payment gateway, so that was also a plus.”

3. Braintree Paves the Way for Payday!

Braintree has it all. It’s easy to integrate with any back-end system; they handle all charges; and they will vet the customers for you to weed out suspicious transactions. We even run a subscription program (The “Mod of the Month Club”) through them. When you’re on the road, it’s an incredibly easy system to access and manually charge customer orders. But best of all is their customer service. While traveling, I had to charge a pretty massive order for a customer. We do custom watches for various companies, and this partner wanted to pay for 1,000 watches with a credit card. While the revenue was above our maximum allowed transaction, they called our banks and approved the one-time charge to go through. Their team is a core partner to Modify!”

4. Dwolla Is a Discount in Itself

Dwolla has completely changed my business since I started using it about six months ago. It’s saved my hundreds if not thousands of dollars in PayPal fees. Instead of paying 3 percent on every transaction – which adds up fast – I pay 25 cents, no matter how much money is involved. Less than $10? Free. Dwolla is strictly cash-based, so you can’t accept credit card payments through it, which can be a pain; however, as adoption spreads, they are going to be a legitimate competitor to PayPal.”
