Greetings, all you post-holiday hams. I hope Santa brought you all the latest tech toys to play with in the new year. I was not so fortunate in the gadget-getting department, but I was gifted some really neat orange loafers. Sadly though, my new shoes are not capable of downloading these three awesome New Years apps to ring in the new year (but they will make me all the rage at the yacht club).
1. Times Square Live ($1.99)
Now, I managed to do the Times Square for New Year’s thing when I was 15. The hypothermia and serious need for the loo made the experience, well, not massively enjoyable. At least I can check it off the bucket list. I much prefer to watch the ball drop from the comforts of whatever respective party I find myself at. This year, we can even watch the ball drop live on our mobile devices (no surprise there). Check out Earthcam’s view of Times Square to make sure you don’t miss this New Year’s Eve tradition.
2. Clink-Clink app (Free)
First off, I love me some champagne, and New Year’s Eve lets me partake in heavy bubble-boozing without feeling ashamed (though, I can’t recall ever feeling ashamed of this activity… classy and sassy are more like it). If for some reason you don’t want to cheers with real glasses and real champagne (I will refrain from judging), there’s always Waterford Crystal’s Clink-Clink app. When you “clink” your iPhone with another, you can virtually re-create a true champagne toast so you can ring in the New Year or any other occasion.
3. New Year’s App (Free)
If you’re throwing a party, the New Year’s App is one New Years app you need to check out. It has three different games to play with your guests including, Never Have I Ever, Most Likely and Truth or Dare. You’ll probably want to play this after a few bottles of champers, though, to elicit the best answers. The Clink-Clink app doesn’t count.
Boom. Now you know the New Year’s Eve apps that will help you ring in 2013 like a true techie. And, if you want more advice on how to make sure the night ends with fireworks (and I’m not talking the ones in the sky), check out my girl Emma’s guide to getting lucky this New Year’s. That’s correct. There are apps for that.
