FarmLogs Reaps $4 Million In Funding To Cultivate Smarter Farms

It probably can’t save farmers from waking up while the rest of us snore away, but there’s little else that FarmLogs can’t do to give our nation’s food growers a hand managing crops. Few look to the clouds with their livelihoods so dependent on the information found there, so, in many ways, it’s only natural that farmers should turn to a cloud-based solution to better their business.

Sowing the Seeds of the Future

FarmLogs software allows farmers to harness the power of big data to improve efficiency and increase profits. Farmers can track weather, crop progress, market prices, equipment in use and more. A mobile application lets farmers automatically collect data in the field, and access information from wherever they need.

On the smart farm, farmers can track rainfall and other conditions that will help determine when and what to plant, optimizing crop rotation; they can schedule and manage operations such as irrigating, tiling, and fertilizing; and they’re able to glean a clearer picture of the farm’s finances. Maps help visualize field performance and find local prices.

Access to the farm management software if free when monitoring up to 1,000 acres. Afterward, monthly plans start at $29 dollars. Check here for more details. FarmLogs is available on desktop and on both Android and Apple mobile devices.

Bountiful Harvest

Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, FarmLogs was co-founded by Jesse Vollmar and Brad Koch. The duo left running a small I.T. consultancy to focus on building software to help farms like the one Vollmar grew up on about 90 miles outside of Detroit. A graduate of Y Combinator, FarmLogs is now used in all 50 states and 130 countries. A recent Series A round led by Drive Capital brought the companies total funding so far up to $5 million. The young outfit’s early success landed Vollmar a spot on the 2104 Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the energy category.

In a company press release following the latest funding news, Vollmar said: “We’ve helped thousands of farmers around the world take advantage of technology, and with their feedback and suggestions they’ve helped us create a smarter future for farming.”

Faced with challenges such as increasingly volatile climate change, growing demand for food, and mounting expenses, farmers have sorely needed an able, mobile field hand. FarmLogs gives farmers an affordable opportunity to use real-time data to enhance their business. The software is geared toward row crop farming.
