The main idea behind WikiProfessional is that the web allows us to share information like never before but that much of that information is being redundantly uploaded to various sites and not to one central portal. The idea of Wikiprofessional then, is to have all of the information stored in one portal where it can be added to and edited by professionals, thereby increasing knowledge and not the redundancy of knowledge.
The Life Sciences wing of this project allows medical professionals and others to collaborate, research and update the rest of the community like never before. This new Wiki project has been jumpstarted with the pre-population of data from authoritative Life Sciences sources like the Unified Medical Language System, UniProt, GeneOntology and others. These sources are read-only but serve as the base for future expansion.
