I have vivid memories of the times I was an Amiga user. Well, technically speaking I am still one – my trusty Amiga 1200 is still sitting in my room, right there in front of the TV set.
I distinctly recall the day a friend and I got angry at someone who uploaded a shareware application to Aminet named “Da Cool Booter” that claimed to let you play games that those with memory limitations (IE, the two of us) could not run otherwise. Well, not only did it fail to do that, but if you used it for free you had to comply with the most annoying and self-deprecating process you could imagine. My friend decided to create something called “The Aminet Police” and “ban” “applications” like that one from the repository of Amiga files. I think we removed “Da Cool Booter” but it was uploaded again within days, and “The Aminet Police” went no further than that, partly because my friend got bored, and mainly because I got my hands on my first Oasis CD, and I started drifting apart from the world of computer games.
This site brought all that to mind since it is a public Twitter account which you can use to give citations to annoying users, and tell them to cut it off. You can also employ it to get their attention.
All you have to do is send a tweet to the address that is provided online and comply with the format that is also specified on the site. That’s it. No need to register or disclose information of any kind. Novel service. I hope it lives longer than The Aminet Police!
