This Week’s Best In Beta

Which startup is going to be the next big thing? Investors, bloggers, job seekers, and inspiring entrepreneurs everywhere are dying to know. Hundreds of startups enter private beta each month, and that’s far too many for any one person to keep up with. Fret not! Each week, I share some of the hottest new startups in this column, Best In Beta. Let’s discover the next big thing together!

Pitching your startup. Does the phrase make your palms sweat, raise your blood pressure, fill you with overwhelming senses of confidence and joy?

Startup founders, media, investors, anyone interested in startups or stories of people going from nobodies to zillionaires…. We all love listening to the pitch.

Let’s be honest, the narratives of companies trying to impress investors captivate us nearly as much (sometimes more) as startups or products themselves. Everyone wants to hear the pitch, know which pitches work, which bomb.

The pitch represents high stakes for those on the spot, business for investors, instruction for others in a similar position – and fascinating entertainment for all.

Or so at least one startup thinks. The Pitch is a podcast for founders to pitch their startups to investors. According to the website, “We find early stage startups, listen to their pitch and help them raise money from our audience of angel investors.”

Can interested startups ever have enough direct access to investors? Hell no. And why should Shark Tank get to have all the fun?

The Pitch gives investors a pipeline of new startups to consider, founders a chance to test their spiel with an ideal audience, and listeners the thrill of going along for the ride.

These are glory days for both startups and podcasts, so it only makes sense for the two to come together. What’s more, what a great opportunity for startups – to pitch not just to one potential investor but to an audience of investors (with less pressure than comes with appearing onscreen, which isn’t for everyone).

Sign up to know when The Pitch launches at thepitch.vc. If you enjoy the podcast or the concept, be sure to also check out another podcast by the same crew, Daily Hunt, “A daily podcast dedicated to sharing the stories and lessons behind founders and their products.”
