This Week’s Best In Beta: Pay Us Our Money Down (For Our Data) – TootSpace

This Week’s Best In Beta

Which startup is going to be the next big thing? Investors, bloggers, job seekers, and inspiring entrepreneurs everywhere are dying to know. Hundreds of startups enter private beta each month, and that’s far too many for any one person to keep up with. Fret not! Each week, I share some of the hottest new startups in this column, Best In Beta. Let’s discover the next big thing together!

Guilty. Though my job is to sniff out the startup and tech scenes, I plead profound ignorance as to who has access to my data and what they’re doing with it. When I see something shiny and new, my excitement ALWAYS gets the better of me – I click “I agree” without bothering to read all the terms and conditions.

Shameful, I know, but, if I’m the only one who behaves in this manner, may God strike you dead.

Now, what could make me and everyone else who goes online pay attention to their data, more specifically, the value of their data? The chance to make money.

TootSpace gives people back control of their data. It helps them decide what should and should not be for sale, and it gives people a portion of the money data companies make from selling your information.

The more you give (the more you pay attention to and no longer freely give), the larger the percentage you earn.

Just add your contact details and online profiles using the TootSpace mobile app. Wait for companies to purchase the data (less than half a second) or ask specific questions, and make money for your cooperation. Answer daily questions for daily bonuses. Simple and sweet. And just.

I know that there’s no such thing as a free tool. Even if something doesn’t have a price tag attached, I know I’ll have to endure ads or pay in some other fashion to use all of the marvelous gadgets online. I get that, and I’m ok with that. I’m also realistic, and I know that I’m never going to take the time to read the fine print of all I agree to…

So, it seems only right that I receive compensation for my information without killing myself. That seems fair given how willingly I make data available. TootSpace makes it so. Well played.
