This Week’s Best In Beta

Which startup is going to be the next big thing? Investors, bloggers, job seekers, and inspiring entrepreneurs everywhere are dying to know. Hundreds of startups enter private beta each month, and that’s far too many for any one person to keep up with. Fret not! Each week, I share some of the hottest new startups in this column, Best In Beta. Let’s discover the next big thing together!

I love driving, hate owning a car. The maintenance, the guaranteed loss of value, the stress of buying and selling – it’s a losing system if you ask me. Of course, I also appreciate being able to get where I need to, when I need to.

Suck it up, you say? I don’t think so, suckers.

Joule is a startup that lets you enjoy all the benefits of having your own car, with amazing bonus perks – without all the bothers of ownership.

Just as you would when purchasing a car, you pick out your wheels and keep the vehicle with you. The longer you drive the same vehicle, the cheaper the payments become. That’s about where the similarities stop and the joys of Joule start to radiate.

Why not lease, you ask? Well, for starters, you can’t take your leased vehicle with you after a flight, can you? OK, you can’t do that with Joule either, but you can take your membership along, so, you just pick up a similar car at another Joule location – without the expense and hassles of renting!

Ordinarily, as an owner or leaser, when (notice, not if) things go wrong, you’re on the hook for fixing things and all the complications that come along with being without your vehicle. With Joule, on the other hand, you simply swap it out for an identical car and go along your merry way. If you break down, the company doesn’t just send a tow, it sends you a vehicle so you can drive off as if nothing happened. THAT is roadside assistance.

I know some people really identify with their car. Not me. I see wheels as nothing more than transportation and the easier and the less costly, the better. No worrying about saving up for another downpayment when it’s time for a new ride. No out of pocket maintenance expenses that add up… Just driving.

Can I just say, I think this approach to transportation, this business model, is freakin’ brilliant.

You’re never without a ride, but you’re also not bound to the same vehicle until the kids leave home. Speaking of which, if the family grows, you just switch to a larger car. That simple. No trade negotiations.

Oh, and your ride is delivered by valet service… Love, love, love it. Take a spin over to joule.club to learn more and sign up for the pilot program.
