Today’s Killer Startup: Skurt
Skurt is a rental car service that operates totally by app. They even deliver the car to you.
Why It’s A Killer Startup:
If there ever was an industry ripe for disruption (and that’s a word I almost never use anymore, so you know I’m serious), it’s the rental car industry. The hoops you have to jump through and hurdles you have to clear – combined with abysmal customer service and the fact that it seems like 99% of car rental places are located an hour outside of anywhere you’d ever want to be – make the whole process a nightmare. I challenge you to find one person in your immediate area who can share a great car rental story. Go ahead. I dare you.
Skurt feels the collective pain of everyone who has ever had to deal with a car rental service. Their solution is a lovely, easy-to-use app. The process starts with you scanning your license, which will then be stored in a HIPAA-compliant environment. So, unless you really actually love your personal information being stored on photocopied 8×11 paper and stuffed into unsecured filing cabinets, Skurt is already winning.
The booking process is simple, with just a few taps connecting you with your car. You arrange the time you’ll have it, pay, and even set where it will be delivered, all in-app. Yup, you read that right: they’ll deliver the car to you. No more trooping out to the airport or the random outskirts of the city in order to take possession of your rental car.
If that wasn’t dreamy enough, they also don’t charge underage fees: as long as you’re 21, you’re good to go. You don’t have to fill out any paperwork, they over 24/7 support in case something goes wrong, and you’ll never have to wait in line. I’m actually so excited about this that I can’t wait until they expand out of LA so that I can give their service a try. I’m hoping they do NYC next. Can you imagine how much easier life will be for all of us who use that East Coast hub?
Soooo these guys figured out how to make renting a car ACTUALLY ENJOYABLE. Wha??? @skurt
