UpToDate is a clinical community with members spanning the whole world. Its aim is to synthesize knowledge both for clinicians and patients.
The community itself is made up of expert and qualified clinicians that work as authors, editors and reviewers, and answer the questions that are posed by users. The objective of the site is to make for suppler interaction between members of the healthcare community by providing clinicians with information about patient care, and patients with answers about their health along with clinical information. The existing database covers over 7,000 topics in 13 different medical specialties, and it features more than 75,000 pages of text and graphics. A drug database is included as well, alongside links to Medline abstracts. By resorting to this database, patients can find treatment recommendations that take into account new studies and practices. The treatment recommendations are graded in order to make for easier assessment. The site also includes a calendar that details forthcoming physicians meetings both in the United States and in Canada.
