Elevator Pitch:

Planted helps recent college grads find the careers of their dreams.

Why It’s A Killer Startup:

A lot of things suck about your early twenties. You have to figure out who you are in the grown-up world, which is way harder than anyone ever warns you. Everything from your romantic life to your professional life to who you ARE is suddenly upended and confusing as all get out when you finish college.

I remember especially the torment of trying to figure out what I was going to do for work. Nine months in a secondhand store in NYC making $9 an hour was followed by two and a half hellacious years as a social worker in the South Bronx. When that — the career I’d always thought I was going to follow — didn’t pan out, the next two years were spent doing some serious soul searching, a.k.a. freaking the fuck out.

Way back then, in 2008, we didn’t have all of these awesome startups that were out to help us get a job. (Also I totes walked to school uphill both ways in the snow, FYI.) Grads today don’t have to flounder and flop around as hard as I did because of sites like Planted.

Planted is specifically all about hooking up recent college grads (and others, but they’re really into those new adults) with careers that they’ll love. They send out a daily batch of curated jobs that they think their users will be into. Users give them feedback on those jobs and their picks get smarter over time. They’re also offering to leverage their partnerships with “high growth startups and brands” to get newbies into awesome places — if they dig what you’re about, they’ll even act as a personal reference.

Finally, Planted offers a sign-on bonus for anyone who gets hired through them. You heard that right: THEY’LL pay YOU for finding you a job! Where was this system when I was a lost and wandering new college grad??

Just finished #college? This company will pay YOU if they find you job. For realz. @planted
