PicnicMob.org – Organized Mobs Go Out for Lunch

PicnicMob.orgA Flash mobs planner may sound contrary to the flash mob idea– a group that suddenly assembles and suddenly disperses, after all seems to thrive off spontaneity. However, if you think about it, zombie mobs, group pillow fights, consumer stunts and the like require some sort of planning.

Zombies don’t gather by themselves, now, do they? Picnicmob, therefore, has come up with the marvel idea of flash picnic mobs. These are obviously planned affairs, and Picnicmob has you fill out a 30 question survey so they can determine where and with whom you’d be best off sitting near. It takes a little of the mob element out of the picture, but who really wants to share corn on the cob and grilled chicken with a complete stranger? This way you’ll at least enjoy your eats with someone who likes the same music you do. Harmonious mobs are better than chaotic, disparate ones any day. The site currently operates in Boston, DC, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco. Once 1,000 participates sign up in a city, Picnicmob sets off to work. As long as you’re registered you’ll be emailed the time and date, and then it’s picnic time.

PicnicMob.org In Their Own Words

‘Picnicmob – n. English. A flash mob for picnics
The twist: You answer the questions below and we throw the data (from you and a ton of other people from your town) into a supercomputer to calculate precisely you should sit to that your neighbors have the same interests… It’s a big social map of communities, but created in real life!’

Why PicnicMob.org It Might Be A Killer

Flashmobs are popular stunts, but the problem is not everyone gets along. Picnicmob takes the flashmob idea and gives it a more communal edge. It’s a little more civilized, it’s got a point, and you can actually make friends with your picnic buddies.
