Today’s Killer Startup: Maptia
Maptia is a storytelling platform featuring “remarkable stories, told by some of the most inspiring photographers, writers, and adventurers on the planet.”
Why It’s A Killer Startup:
Storytelling is one of the most ancient human arts, and one that I personally think is invaluable. One of my favorite things about the internet, in fact, is our newfound ability to tell and share our stories with people all over the world. We do it in short form on platforms like Twitter and Facebook. While there are a few different options for long form storytelling out there, few are as nice as Maptia.
Maptia is a storytelling platform for the world’s stories that really matter. Their homepage offers readers a few options: stories that inspire people to get out and do something amazing, stories that foster empathy, and stories that empower people to care about the environment. Each story is accompanied by beautiful images and a lovely, minimal design that makes reading them a pleasure.
“Today all of our cultures are coming together at a speed of light because of the internet and globalization, so it’s even more important to foster understanding and empathy between different cultures and ways of life,” co-founder and CEO Dorothy Sanders told KillerStartups. “For millennia, storytelling has been how we’ve understood each other. We want Maptia to be the storytelling platform that continues that tradition.”
And Maptia is not only great to its readers but treats its storytellers well too. While other platforms usually claim some kind of ownership of content, Maptia leaves full ownership to the creators. Some stories even get a boost from Maptia’s editorial team, who volunteer their time to help them make work even better.
“We see Maptia as being in service to the storyteller, as a platform and a team,” Dorothy explained. “We want to help them bring their story to life.”
Do you have a story you’re dying to tell? Sick of clickbait articles about nothing clogging up your mind? Or do you just love beautiful, great storytelling? Head over to Maptia and check out what they’ve got going on.
