Today’s Killer Startup: WeSnap

Elevator Pitch:

WeSnap is a photo app where you take half of the picture and your friend takes the other half.

Why It’s A Killer Startup:

So, I have to confess that I haven’t always been pro-photo app. There was a period when it seemed like every other damn startup was a new photo sharing app, to the point where it became the default stereotype of Silicon Valley bros just looking to make a quick buck.

“Oh ya, I came here to make this dope new photo app,” was the mocking refrain heard throughout San Francisco.

But in my old age (I just turned 28, guys!) I’ve become less judgmental. I’ve also become the owner of an iPhone 5s when my boyfriend upgraded to a 6, so I’m re-discovering how much fun taking photos can actually be, in a way that I hadn’t since my first flip phone with a camera back in 2005.

Add on the final factor, which is the fact that I live far away from most everyone I love, and you can see why WeSnap has a certain appeal.

The app is simple: take a “half a photo,” share it with your friends, and then they take the other half. The resulting collage is a fun way to share a moment and connect in a new and different way, even when you’re hundreds (or, in my case, thousands) of miles away.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my time living abroad it’s that other countries have much laxer laws about drinking in public. (Just kidding! Sorry Mom.) No, in all seriousness, I’ve learned that it’s much, much harder to keep in touch with your friends who are spread across every continent than you ever expect it to be. While emails and even Facebook messages can seem like a burden, WeSnap is a quick, fun way to connect with the people you love – or, at least, the people you love to have fun with.
