LISTENGame.org – Tell Others What You Think About Songs

LISTENGame.orgListengame is a simple music game that lets you choose words that describe how you interpret a certain song. The game is played interactively with other players currently on the site.

You hear short clips of eight songs, and Listengame will give you a category, say “Emotional Content”. In turn, they provide you with six words relevant to their choice of topic, and you have to pick the words which best describes the current song and the word which describes it the worst. Other categories are “Instrumentation”, “Use of Song”, and a few others. One of the questions will require you to enter a word in manually which you feel best describes the song playing in terms of the chosen category. For example, when I was playing, Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” came on, and Listengame asked for a word that best described the genre, so I put “Singer/Songwriter”. Scoring works like this: If you pick the most popular answer for both the best and worst choices, you get points. Additionally, you receive points if other users chose your manually-entered word for the wildcard category. As you go along, you’ll see how you’re doing relative to other users, and in the end you’ll get to see where you stand on the scoreboard. You need to register to play, but it’s easy; no email confirmation required.

LISTENGame.org In Their Own Words

“Listen is a game that lets you tell others what you think about music. It also lets you hear what other people think about music.
Music is a subjective form of art. We all have our own unique experince when listening to a song. Even though you might think that “Hangin’ Tough” by New Kids on the Block is “explosive and revolutionary”, your friend may think it’s “cheesy and annoying”. Play Listen Game and see if the world agrees with you”.

Why LISTENGame.org It Might Be A Killer

Listengame is a fun time-killer for those boring days in the office. It would be most interesting to play with your friends and coworkers, I would think.

Some Questions About LISTENGame.org

In my opinion, this application leaves a lot to be desired and could be improved in many ways, starting with the musical genres provided. There aren’t many. For the music connoisseur, Listengame is really lacking in content; song samples are pretty much limited to disco, rock, pop, and punk. Nothing very esoteric here. The questions are too repetitive and you’ll tire of the game after one round as they are pretty easy and relatively boring. Another problem is the length and selection of the music samples. Often, the clips selected doesn’t include content that best represents the song, so any player that recognizes it will have an advantage over the other players. LISTENGame.org
