You’re Going To Love Lilo, The Lovely Smart System For Growing Herbs

Today’s Killer Startup: Lilo

Elevator Pitch:

Lilo helps you grow herbs at home with their pretty growers and recipe-suggesting app.

Why It’s A Killer Startup:

Here’s the Emma Fact of the day: Plants make your life better. Now, you’re probably thinking, “How can you know that, Emma? You don’t know me!” And you’re right, I don’t know you. What I do know is that caring for growing things and having them around makes humans feel better. This is a semi-scientific, semi-observational fact.

But a lot of us are… Not so great at growing plants. The little buggers can be difficult! That’s where Lilo comes in, with their super awesome herb growers. The team spent two years developing their plant pods, which are kind of like fancy Chia pets. All you, grower, have to do is place the capsule in water and your plants will start to grow! The capsule contains almost everything your plant needs: nutrients and seeds. Just add light in the form of the little lamp that comes with it and water to the base, and voila! You’ll have lovely little herbs in no time.

You might have noticed that there’s no soil listed in that paragraph above. That’s because Lilo has modeled their system after the floating gardens in ancient Egypt. Apparently, the Egyptians figured out how to grow salads hydroponically. Lilo takes that methodology and applies it to their little pods, with a patented system that lets them float on water, leaving plenty of room for the roots to stretch and grow.

Lilo also has an app that recommends recipes that include your lovely little herbs, so you can get inspired to eat delicious, homemade food on the regular.

Are you one of those people that can’t seem to keep a plant alive? Or would you just like to have fresh herbs year round? Head over to Lilo’s Kickstarter and get your pre-order in today!
