Knowee.org – A New Web Address Book

Knowee.orgKnowee is a new service that is self-touted as “a web address book that lets you integrate social graph fragments”. This solution is available in two different incarnations: a web-based edition and a downloadable version that can be installed on your server.

Bear in mind that this solution has just surfaced and it is in alpha, so do not expect everything to go according to plan when you use it.

Some of the most noteworthy aspects of Knowee include the ability to import contacts from Web 2.0 services through XFN and FOAF as well as updating the address book automatically from remote data sources.

From a technical standpoint, Knowee is based on open standards and semantic web technology. In practice, this means that the data that is imported and exported is handled in compliance with the latest web-based practices and developments in the hope of creating a system whereby decentralized data can be readily accessed and put to good use.

The site includes information on how to install the current alpha release, so that you can get started more or less immediately. Lastly, it must be mentioned that programmers and developers can procure the original prototype in order to see how things have taken shape for themselves.
