Elevator Pitch

Compfight is an image search engine tailored to efficiently locate images for blogs, comps, inspiration, and research.”

Why It’s A Killer Startup

As a blogger, I’ve spent hours of my life – and will without a doubt spend hours more – sifting through Creative Commons images for pics to use in my posts. I’ve gone from newbie use of super cheesy stock photos to what I hope is more interesting, more natural image usage by utilizing sites like Flickr.

Flickr really is my go-to these days but I recently found myself complaining about how long those huge images take to load. I’m currently living in Guatemala and our internet connection isn’t exactly super speedy so the loading time on Flickr has been taking out a pretty significant chunk of my days recently.

That’s why I’m excited to start using Compfight, which makes use of Flickr’s API but pulls up smaller images much more quickly than Flickr itself. Whereas I may spend up to two minutes waiting for a full Flickr result to load, Compfight brings up the same images almost immediately, even with my not so great wifi.

The site also lets you specify if you’re looking only for Creative Commons licensed images or ones to use commercially. If you’re new to this kind of image use, Compfight even provides a handy little guide on how to cite your sources properly.

Last and probably least, Compfight also provides access to professional stock photos, starting as low as $1 per image. Personally I’m not a huge fan of stock photos but I know that some companies and people rely on them to maintain a consistent image so if that’s what you’re looking for, you can find it at Compfight.com.
