If You Love Podcasts, You’re Going To Love Jabbercast

Today’s Killer Startup: Jabbercast

Elevator Pitch:

Jabbercast is the podcast-lovers podcast app for iOS.

Why It’s A Killer Startup:

I listen to podcasts all the time. Like, no joke: All. The. Time. I listen to them as I make my coffee in the morning; I listen to them in the shower; I listen to them as I walk to work. I just love great storytelling, and right now some of the best storytelling is on podcasts. From This American Life to The Heart to Reply All, I’m constantly listening to stories of people’s lives while also paying attention to how those stories are put together.

But I hate the Apple Podcasts app my iPhone. Seriously, seriously hate it. It’s awkward to navigate, crashes all the time, and doesn’t distinguish between an episode that I’ve listened to for three seconds and one that I’ve stopped just because I don’t want to hear the adds or credits at the end. (Manually marking everything as played is 100% a first world problem that I have, and I don’t even care.) It’s also surprisingly hard to find new podcasts to listen to, despite the fact that my interests — startups and sex — should be pretty damn clear to Apple by now.

That’s why I’m pumped about Jabbercast. While at first I was worried about how long it would take to re-subscribe to all of my podcasts on a new app, my worries were unfounded. Both search and subscribe are so much simpler than they are on the Podcasts app. Most of them popped up after I typed in just the first word — or even the first couple of letters — of the title. All I had to do to subscribe was hit the “+” button and I was good to go! Jabbercast immediately started downloading the latest episode of each podcast, and put them in an easy-to-use, easy-to-see queue. Even telling it to stop downloading the ones I’d already listened to was easy – one tap and done!

I also love that I can easily get info about each episode by just clicking the little “i” on the right hand side.

That’s it. I’m sold. Podcasts app is going in the virtual dumpster and I’m all about Jabbercast from here on out.
