It’s Time To Get Serious About That Freelance Hustle

freelance

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past three years as a professional freelance blogger it’s that you better be all about that hustle if freelancing is going to work for you. Unlike regular nine-to-fivers, us freelancers know that our incomes rely on constantly connecting with people who are looking to hire someone with our skill sets. There’s no sitting back on your laurels in freelancing!

On the other side of the fence, there are more and more companies who want to hire freelancers for both short and long term jobs but just don’t know where to find them. How do you know that the person contacting you through the computer is any good? How do you know you can trust them and they’ll meet your company’s needs?

Luckily for us, over the past couple of years a bunch of startups have cropped up that focus on connecting freelancers with the companies who want to hire them. While the most well-known are the big marketplaces, those tend to be crowded with overseas talent that can afford to take much less than your average American freelancer.

GetSerio offers an alternative to the massive marketplaces that so many of us have become frustrated with. Started as a resource for members of the Entrepreneur’s Organization in order to assure a certain quality level of employers, GetSerio is now open to other businesses searching for freelancers, as long as they’re approved by the GetSerio team.

The site is free for freelancers, with no commissions or cuts taken no matter how much you earn. (Smart move GetSerio – most freelancers aren’t exactly raking in the dough.) Sign up by connecting your LinkedIn account and then fill out whatever info isn’t pre-populated from the signup. They also want you to list what they call your “work areas” in order of preference so that they can better match you with the jobs you prefer.

At this stage in their development, GetSerio isn’t charging hirers either, although their site says that could change in future iterations. The only fee associated with the entire service are those taken by PayPal, simply because that’s the way they’re processing payments at this point.

Hustling for jobs is one of the hardest parts of being a freelancer, and hiring freelancers who will do their jobs well can take way too much time if you try to do it all yourself. Let GetSerio take care of the details for you.
