In our interview with entrepreneur Udhaya Krishna, co-founder of MyPromoVideos, he told us about the early days of starting up and why entrepreneurs should stay hungry and stay foolish.
How’d you come up with Mypromovideos?
Each and every website or product online is unique. Their video should be as unique as their product. We at MyPromoVideos make sure that every Client of ours is proud to say that its “My” Promo Videos.

What’s the very first thing you do at work everyday?
Update the status of the videos which are in porduction on our project management system. Other than that prepare a cup of coffee.
How many people did you start the company with and how many people work for you now?
Santhosh, Anil, Udhaya and Gopal—The four of us are schoolmates and started the company. Now we have a team of 4 animators and a Script Writer working for us.
Remember the early days starting up? Maybe you can share one anecdote that describe the struggle you went through?
The first day we decided to start mypromovideos. We were in need of a website to showcase our videos but we had zero experience about website creation. We started learning about it just a day before the launch. Myself and Santosh were assigned this job. We were working on the design and when we are about to finish, I made a mistake and the whole website crashed.
We actually had no idea what the problem was, but we knew we only had one night to recreate everything. We both decided whatever happens we need to finish the website before the launch and we pulled an all nighter and finished the website perfectly before the launch.
How do you handle frustration? When/how was the last time you dealt with frustration?
We are very open in our communication and are receptive to feedback. We handle frustration by thinking of the solution and not the problem.
We were really frustrated when our Sales Process was not stable and we were missing a lot of leads due to not having a perfect system. We had a meeting on this and we knew everyone was frustrated about this, but didn’t know an exact solution. Then Gopal came up with a system which streamlined our sales process and now we don’t miss a single lead. And now our conversion rates increased drastically.
What’s your office environment like?
As ours is a creative job, we make sure that people have a lot of fun in between creating videos. We play Cricket, Table Tennis and have an in-house library. Music is always around and keeps us humming and buzzing.
How do you picture Mypromovideo in 5 years?
We wish after 5 years we will be a top online video creation studio.
Who or what inspires you?
There are lot of people inspire us from Steve Jobs to our office keeper. Favourite Quote of all time is:
“Stay hungry, stay foolish.”
How’d you fund this venture?
We are a bootstrapped startup and have always been self funded. We reinvest what we earn into the business.
Got any great bootstrapping tips for the lean startups out there?
Start working on something that’s your passion and don’t do anything just for the sake of making money. Find complementary founders and you will always succeed.
What would you be doing if you had one year off and $500,000 to spend?
I would like to invest a major part of the amount in creating a product of my dream(not mentioning it here). And save some money as a back up and spend the rest as I wish.
Do you consider yourself a successful entrepreneur right now? If not, what’s it gonna take to make you feel successful?
Yes, I partially consider myself successful but I still feel this is not the end. As an entrepreneur, thinking this is the end is a sin. Need to learn new things everyday and keep moving forward.
