Why It’s A Killer Startup
I’m obsessed with water bottles. I know, that’s kind of weird, but anyone who knows me knows that I always have a water bottle with me. I have an almost obsessive fear of being dehydrated, mainly because I just feel so terrible when I haven’t had enough water. It’s not worth it. It’s much better to just make sure I always have a water bottle with me.
But I just realized that in terms of water bottle awesomeness, I’ve been settling with my regular old BPA-free metal one. That’s because HidrateSpark recently came across my inbox and I have one word: Whoa.
HidrateSpark was originally conceived of at Startup Weekend, Minneapolis, by founder Nadya Nguyen. Less than 54 hours after her pitch, Nadya had a working prototype of a water bottle that tracked water intake and synced to a mobile app. That was followed by a run in the Spring Mobile Health Accelerator Program, which is run by Techstars, and then a Kickstarter campaign where they raised $700k.
Basically, they’ve been kicking ass.
The bottle itself comes in six different colors and is made from BPA-free plastic. It keeps track of how much water you’re drinking and records the data on your phone. It even recommends a customized water goal for you, and will remind you if you’re not getting enough – both via the app and the bottle, which glows when you need more water. What the WHAT?
