GroupTweet.com – Send Private Tweets to a Group

GroupTweet.comTwitter is great for casually communicating with lots of friends at once, but when a little privacy is desired, it’s hardly the best means. GroupTweet.

com is a new site that piggybacks on the Twitter API, allowing you to set up a private group and send tweets only to designated group members. The set-up is fairly painless: you first create a Twitter account to represent your group, making certain that updates are protected. Then register the new Twitter account at GroupTweet.com, and have each group member add the group Twitter account to their ‘follow’ list. (Due to the account protection, you have to approve each group member individually.) When you want to send a message to all group members, simply send a message to the group’s Twitter account, and GroupTweet.com will recognize it and immediately churn it back out as a tweet sent from the group Twitter account, which all members will receive since they are following that account. This way, your private message is received only by approved group members, and not published to your public Twitter timelines.

GroupTweet.com In Their Own Words

“GroupTweet is constantly listening for direct texts sent to your group’s Twitter account. When a direct text is received, GroupTweet instantly publishes it as a tweet from the group account. Since all of your group members are following the group’s Twitter account, they will each receive the message. Easy-peasy!”

Why GroupTweet.com It Might Be A Killer

Anyone who is already an active Twitter user might appreciate the ability to use the service to send more personal messages. There’s no limit on how big or small you make a group, so you decide with whom and for what purpose you create your GroupTweet group.
