Giving back is one of the best things we can do. While it used to be that only the richie riches could contribute, the internet has opened up giving to the masses. With the advent of crowdfunding, we’re all able to give a little back, whether it’s to help make a friend’s dream come true or to contribute toward rebuilding efforts after huge natural disasters like the earthquake that just devastated Nepal.
While you probably have your own favorite sites for giving back, let me introduce one more. It’s called World 143, and it has a very innovative take on giving back.
World 143 is a combination crowdfunding, prize-winning, and philanthropy organization. Founded by artist Brendan Murphy, the organization accepts donations of as small as five dollars and as high as, well, as high as you want. Like traditional crowdfunding sites, the money goes to some kind of do-good campaign, letting you give back.
But here’s the twist: your reward is the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience with a celebrity.
At the time of writing this article, World 143 is offering two different campaigns. One is lunch with Full House heartthrob John Stamos. The donations for this campaign will go to Project Cuddle, which is an organization that “provides safe and legal alternatives to baby abandonment.” The prize includes roundtrip airfare for two, a luxury hotel room in LA, a $1,000 shopping spree, lunch with John Stamos, and dinner for two at Wolfgang Puck’s.
Phew! That’s a lot of stuff! Doing good never looked so good, did it?
The other campaign — which supports an organization called Kids&Art that works with kids who have cancer — has a grand prize of a workout with Shaun T, the famous trainer and performer. The package includes a 30-minute in-person training session with Shaun, two nights in a luxurious hotel in Phoenix, Arizona, and six months of private coaching.
World 143 is basically providing a win-win for everyone. You get the great feeling of knowing that you’re giving back while also getting in the running for a potentially life-changing experience.
