Today’s Killer Startup: Cushion
Cushion is “a forecasting app for freelancers, providing better insight into clients, projects, and income.”
Why It’s A Killer Startup:
Having too much freelance work is a problem that a lot of people would like to have, but the reality isn’t always so nice. I know because I live with a very popular UI/UX designer and I’ve been with him through his transition from “take-any-job-that-comes-my-way” freelancer to “holy-shit-I-have-way-too-many-jobs-when-am-I-ever-going-to-sleep-again?” freelancer. While we both have been super pumped at his ability to land increasingly more high-end (and high-budget) jobs, it’s also become obvious that just because you have enough assignments to work all the time, doesn’t mean you should.
And even if you’re not at the most-wanted point in your career yet, every freelancer knows how up and down this life can be. One month you’re flush with jobs, the next month you can’t get anyone to pay you even a cent for a word or a pixel.
Cushion hopes to smooth out that rollercoaster a bit so that freelancers can stop feeling so bipolar all of the time. It does that first by providing a visual schedule, helping you map out your jobs for months ahead and making it easier to get an idea of when things might pile up. It also helps you track your budget, letting you know who still needs to pay and how much pay you can expect in the upcoming months. Even more awesome, Cushion provides insights into your clients, stuff like “this client tends to pay late” or “this one takes a while with feedback.” Cushion also integrates into your other services, meaning you don’t have to add all of your info into all of the places all of the time.
Take a deep breath. Relax. Cushion has your freelance back.
