Elevator Pitch:

The Fit Men Cook app makes it easy to plan, shop for, and cook healthy meals.

Why It’s A Killer Startup:

I’m back in the States from Guatemala for a quick visit, and one thing that I’d kind of forgotten is how easily available and cheap take out is here. It’s everywhere! You can get a massive plate of Chinese food, in less than five minutes, and it’s enough to last you for two meals, for less than ten bucks!

No wonder this country has a serious obesity problem.

I’m lucky enough to have a job that’s flexible enough that I can take off in the afternoon to do a massive shop at the local market. I’m also lucky to live in a place where fresh produce is dirt cheap — I got all of that food below for the equivalent of $3.50.

However, I know that most Americans don’t have the time to spend the afternoon shopping and the better part of the evening cooking up a meal. I also know that fresh produce is, unfortunately, often more expensive than processed stuff.

It’s hard to be healthy with our modern lifestyles, and that’s what I love Fit Men Cook.

The philosophy behind Fit Men Cook is simple but so on point:

  1. Food should be easy to prepare, and affordable
  2. Food should be vibrant and tasty, never boring
  3. Preparing food in advance is important

The app — which is available for iOS — helps people (aimed toward men, but obviously women can use it too) achieve healthy eating by providing more than 100 healthy recipes that are totally searchable. Once you pick a recipe, you can add it right to your shopping list and check off items, in-app, as you find them in the store. If you’re customizing the recipe, you can even add ingredients of your own or scale up or down based on how many servings you need to make.

But it’s not just a grocery store app, right? Fit Men Cook also helps people meet fitness and weight goals by letting you track calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates. It’s even available on Apple Watch, making it even easier to keep track.

So, here’s my bit of advice: I know fast food is easy and cheap, but get Fit Men Cook and cooking healthy meals at home will be that much easier, and cheaper too.
