This Week’s Best In Beta
Which startup is going to be the next big thing? Investors, bloggers, job seekers, and inspiring entrepreneurs everywhere are dying to know. Hundreds of startups enter private beta each month, and that’s far too many for any one person to keep up with. Fret not! Each week, I share some of the hottest new startups in this column, Best In Beta. Let’s discover the next big thing together!
If you think available file transferring tools are adequate, let me ask you if you work much with video? S-L-O-W.
Since becoming a proud papa, I now take and share more photos and videos than I ever dreamed. I have some family that insists on using WhatsApp, others DropBox, still others Google Drive. I’m constantly shuttling media between applications and devices – and I need transfers to be smarter and faster.
I’m hoping that Uncord will come to the rescue. This application promises swift, painless file transfers and video streaming. No fancy configurations, no device limitations. Uncord works across Windows, Apple, and Android platforms. (Yes, developers, this means no API issues!)
Sign up with email or a Facebook account and you’re ready to accelerate your transfers into warp speed. What’s more, Uncord aims to protect your privacy; your information isn’t stored on their servers or relayed elsewhere.
Dissatisfied with current file transferring services? Visit getuncord.com and become a tester.
I’ll save the bulk of my outrage for a more suitable space and say that the behavior of big banks appalls me. I’ve been eager to see an alternative to the familiar players emerge – a bank that doesn’t impose extortionist fees (until forced by law to alter policy), doesn’t aid and abet global financial meltdowns. A bank that makes routine banking easy without sneaky fees or shenanigans.
BankMobile, as the name suggests, is a mobile bank, one that doesn’t charge any fees and that pays a higher savings rate than top banks. No branches, no bureaucracy, and – in case you missed it or don’t believe it – no fees!
Camera-driven banking allows individuals to set up an account through the BankMobile app by photographing their driver’s license. Deposit checks and pay bills using photos as well. Send money to family and friends via email address or cell number.
Slick technology allows you to view your account with a 4-digit pin, while you can unlock or lock debit cards with a swipe.
Anyone else not buying the line that secure banking and easier banking are incompatible? Lead the way, BankMobile. Along the way, we’ll enjoy using ATMs without paying fees for withdrawing cash and delight in greater freedom to bank where we please.
Ready to put your bank in your pocket, on your phone? No amusement park line or drive through necessary. Dash over to bankmobile.com to learn more.
