This Week’s Best In Beta: It’s Never Been Easier To Find A Roommate Than It Is Using RentHoop

This Week’s Best In Beta

Which startup is going to be the next big thing? Investors, bloggers, job seekers, and inspiring entrepreneurs everywhere are dying to know. Hundreds of startups enter private beta each month, and that’s far too many for any one person to keep up with. Fret not! Each week, I share some of the hottest new startups in this column, Best In Beta. Let’s discover the next big thing together!

Two months after moving to NYC, my roommate abruptly announced he was moving out. This put me on the hook for a staggering rent bill and in dire need of finding another roommate. I didn’t have a large social network at the time, so the search for someone to live with was rather frightening. And time consuming.

Explaining details over and over again, arranging viewings, checking up on prospects to make sure strangers are who they say they are… a familiar, torturous process to any one in the rental market. Finding a roommate is a full-time job that no one has time for but that must get done.

Or, at least that was the case before RentHoop arrived on the scene. RentHoop is a match-maker app, but, instead of connecting romantic partners, it unites the perfect roommates.

RentHoop accelerates the process of finding roommates by quickly showing relevant information via mobile app. All it takes is a swipe to skip over the peeps who should never glimpse the inside of your home or to strike up a conversation with promising candidates. Quick and convenient.

This app lets you screen potential roommates on the go, when you have time for it, while sparing you from those awkward exchanges with the people who are clearly a bad fit. RentHoop lets you filter out doomed matches before you’re forced into playing polite yet disappointed tour guide, over and over again.

Facebook integration gives people a chance to scope out potential roomies in more detail. In-app messaging eliminates the need to share personal contact info. If your mother is like mine and raised you to be cautious with strangers, this feature will earn you your favorite dish next time you visit mom. Not a slight side perk!

Browsing through Craigslist and other listings feels like such a chore. High time that we have a place to turn that’s focused exclusively on helping to find the perfect roomie. Open the door for the next time you need a roommate.
