Today’s Killer Startup: BeerLamp
BeerLamp is a location-based app that helps you “quickly let friends know you’re up for getting together, find bars in your area, coordinate meetups.”
Why It’s A Killer Startup:
Recently I’ve been going through that phase of life that we all go through at some point: the “I’m too old to go out on the regular anymore/it’s easier to drink wine at home and read than it is to be bothered with going to a bar.” I’m simultaneously bummed about this new development and kind of okay with it, which I also think is normal.
However, back when I was a fresh spring chicken, I was hitting up the local bar pretty much every night. Now, before you judge me for being an alcoholic (I may have been, a little bit), I’d like to point out two major factors:
- I was a social worker and needed to numb the pain.
- I lived in New York City and no one in NYC (at least in my friend group of poor artists) had space to hang out in their apartments.
As a result, I spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about who might be available to hang out later. If I weren’t such a grandma these days, I’d use the BeerLamp beer app instead.
So, first of all, let’s talk about the name. BeerLamp is very literal: when you want to hang out, you “light your beer lamp.” That lets your friends know that you’re down to grab a beer. Use the app to find nearby friends and decide on where you want to meet up. You can even make in-app groups, so you don’t mix up your work friends with your bar friends with your, I don’t know, Tinder “friends.”
But BeerLamp isn’t just about finding who’s down to chill but also where you want to go — another extremely annoying part of going out. The app lets you search and filter local bars. It even offers BeerLamp-exclusive deals, secret menus, and limited release beers. Finally, BeerLamp lets you know when there are beer-related events going on in your area, giving your friends an extra incentive to come out.
So don’t be lame like me. Light your beer lamp and go hang out with your friends. It’s easier than ever with BeerLamp.
Bottoms up! Light your beer lamp and GET OUT TONIGHT! @BeerLamp
