A Little Pick-Me Up

Pickasound – currently re-branding as Pick-Media – is a great little concept that brings music, video and gamification together in one easy to use, fun platform. Now music fans can create new tracks and videos, and unlock new musical content by playing games online.

 

Why we love it

Procrastination is fun, we’re all agreed on that. Even if it’s not fun in the same way as a party or festival is, procrastination is better than work. And let’s face it work, for all intents and purposes, is a small period of productivity between two larger periods of procrastination. You would not believe how much procrastinating took place before writing this piece; you would struggle to fathom how much will follow, once it is submitted.

ANYWAY. Pickasound is a glorious facilitator of procrastination. Where Facebook allows for easy time-wasting by encouraging you to start down the self-destructive path of stalking your ex and their newer, better, lover online, Pickasound – as well as soon-to-be-launched sister websites Pickavid and Pickagame – offers a fun, social experience for everyone.

Pickasound works by letting users collaborate and remix music online, providing a fun and interactive method of sharing music between their peers. With Pickagame and Pickavid, the platform also fuses music with cash prize gaming and encourages people to get involved by providing access to oh so sweet cash prizes. That’s right: cash prizes. Now you can not only procrastinate, you can make extra money as you do so.

There isn’t a problem with Pickasound, per say, it just isn’t that new, is it? People like music, check. People like games, check. It’s a platform that hopes to make money from games in the same way that Candy Crush and Clash of Clans did, just with a musical theme. Of course, that’s totally fine, and fair play to the team. But, you know, it’s just not grabbing us in the same way that BuzzFeed and its millions of cat articles once did.

Still, it’s difficult to find fault with a business that’s trying to spread a little joy in the world. For all intents and purposes Pickasound is merely trying to make the internet a more enjoyable place which, in a world filled with Twitter Trolls and ISIS, is no small task. Good luck to them.
