5 Tech Skills You Should Have As An Entrepreneur

As you start your business, it’s important to understand what you should be doing, and what you can delegate to others. Delegation is a huge part of being a successful business owner.

However, there are some things you shouldn’t delegate. Indeed, there are some tech skills that you need to develop, even if you don’t consider yourself very tech savvy.

1. Access Your Office Computer from Anywhere

Thanks to technology, it’s possible to run your business from anywhere. You can even run your business from your mobile device. However, it’s important for you to know how to access your office computer from anywhere, especially if you keep it at a headquarters.

This means knowing how to log into your office network remotely, and how to access your computer. There are apps that can help you accomplish this. You should be able to get vital information in a pinch, no matter where you are.

2. Understand How to Work the Most Commonly Used Company Apps

Depending on your business, one of the tech skills you need is understanding how to work the commonly used company apps. If your company uses Zoom.us for meetings, you should know how to get in there and set up a meeting. Does your company use a cloud-sharing document organization app? You should know how to use it so you can participate.

Even if you aren’t doing these things on a regular basis, you should know how to do them so that it’s possible for you to fulfill your duties if called upon.

3. Back Up Your Data

Do you know how to back up your data? You should know. This is one of those tech skills that everyone should have. Whether you back it up to the cloud or to an external hard drive (or maybe do both), it’s important to know where your data lives, and where it’s backed up. That way, if something goes wrong with your individual device, you can access your business documents and reports from another device, or restore them to your current device.

4. Install Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Programs

When you travel with your laptop, or do other things for your company, you want to know it’s secure. Learn how to install programs that fight viruses and other malware, and that can alert you when a security risk is present.

On top of that, it’s important to have a company security protocol. This includes having a process for having employees manage their own devices in a secure way if they are used for work functions. Pay attention to how this is done, and make sure you are compliant with security. You don’t want your whole business at risk.

5. Learn to Use Search Efficiently

Understanding how to use search effectively is one of the best tech skills you can have as an entrepreneur. This goes beyond just understanding how to use a search engine. It also includes knowing how to search documents so you can find something quickly and easily, as well as knowing other ways to search, such as search a spreadsheet file or organizing documents so they can quickly be found online.

Once you master these tech skills, you’ll be a more effective entrepreneur, and be less likely to put your budding business at risk.
