Being a fan of ‘60s music I am obviously acquainted with the works of Andy Warhol. He played a big role on shaping the ethos that musicians like Pete Townshend championed, not to mention having his own input in The Velvet Underground, a band that I personally don’t like that much but that I respect nonetheless.
Warhol’s most widely-quoted maxim is obviously the one that posits every single individual is fated to15 minutes of fame at one point or other during his/her lifetime. That phrase is invoked/parodied/analyzed at every turn, and a site like 15 To Fame simply underlines that fact.
Essentially, the website will let anybody upload a short clip that highlights his/her main claim to fame. That could be just anything – writing simultaneously with both hands, playing the guitar with your feet, making a dog communicate in new ways… you get the idea.
The site, then, aims to be a spot for the discovery of new talent. In actuality, that is nothing that YouTube doesn’t do already, but the objective of the site is to provide a centralized location for such purposes, without distractions of any kind. The premise is not a farfetched one to me, and I know many a show-off that would put the site to its intended use, specially knowing that a fully-receptive crowd is watching for sure.
