As PC sales lag, sales on tablets like iPads are surging. Naturally, people want sassy accessories for their new Internet device. Murat Yilmaz, founder of iPadPin.com, is making our iPad accessory finding, sharing and buying experience a breeze. We caught up with Murat to talk branding, SEO and Pinterest inspiration.
Tell us a little more about what inspired iPadPin.
The idea comes from Pinterest. I was looking for some cool iPad accessories there but the results were far from quality. These terms were heavily hit by spam and there was no real value for the visitor.
So, I have decided to open a niche pinboard style iPad website. According to my search, it is the first and only one on the Internet.
What’s a typical day look like?
Currently, I am trying to rank on search engines with quality content. I search on Internet and post a few new items each day.
I will be promoting the website more aggressively after I feel that there is enough content to please the visitors. As you know, EMDs (Exact match domains) have lost much importance on Google after the last update and I am thinking ways to “brand” the website.
What would you do with $500,000 and one year off?
I would probably develop the web service application which I postponed this year due to lack of resources.
Biggest startup challenge?
There are many ideas at any time. Choosing a strong one and starting is the hardest part. There is always a big chance of failure even at the beginning just because the idea is actually not that good.
Web App or site you couldn’t live without and why.
Ahrefs and Semrush: Both provide all the information I need to keep track of the success level of my SEO ranking efforts and learn what my competitors are doing on several niches. I can also look at them to check which websites were affected or not after a Google algorithm update. Both are excellent applications.
What’s your music-streaming site of choice, and what’s currently playing?
Auralmoon: This is the radio for progressive rock. Currently, it’s playing a song called Sunset on the Ridge by Dionysos. I don’t know the band so I will need to explore more. Indeed, exploration is one of the most appealing parts of Prog Rock world, especially the bands from 1970s need special attention.
What’s the greatest thing about ipadpin?
The information is presented in a very friendly and appealing style. It encourages people to visit more and more pages as in Pinterest.
