Devland – The Answer To Your Outsourcing Needs

Some companies save money by outsourcing their technical jobs to other countries. Companies such as Devland benefit from such actions by providing people who are tech savvy and who can do coding and other tech related jobs; this is part of the outsourcing idea. Read on to find what Devland is truly about.

How’d you come up with the name for your company?

For the last three years, many mobile app developer have started their own business creating [their] own product as well as getting some outsourcing project for their living cost. Those developing guys who I know in Taipei, Taiwan are more than 300 people in coding. Also more than 200 startups, 150 designers. I think Taiwan is a place for development, quality and cost down. Devland stands for the land of development.

What’s the very first thing you do at work everyday?

Searching and collecting the potential company list from USA, AUS, UK. Email them Devland pitch.

How many people did you start the company with and how many people work for you now?

In 2011 June to September we were a team of 7 member. The Devland started with me only. A graphic designer will do the design work. A RD team with 12 employees in China will do the developing work. A friend in UK will do the IOS developing work. A partnering company will do HTML5 work. All other coding requirement will be outsourced in smart way which is a business model.

Remember the early days starting up? Maybe you can share one anecdote that describe the struggle you went through?

The first day I did my first business was in Australia in 2005 as international trading that selling UV protective clothes and accessories. The difficulty was high cost, no one care the sun burnt.

The first day I started my Internet related business was in 12th of June 2008 in Australia and moving back to Taiwan in 25th of Jan 2010 and continuing so far. The difficulty was resource integration… complex idea.

How do you handle frustration? When/how was the last time you dealt with frustration?

Take a rest, clam down and excise. Normally I will rethink every process, team brainstorming and keep going, not much time wasted.

What’s your office environment like?

Currently working at home, but I often go to some places where most start-ups, programmers and designers will work such as university incubator and VC incubator.

How do you picture your company in 5 years?

Firstly I will link programmer, designer and client, secondly, link to existing startup, medium sized company with investment and new product. Thirdly, expend the product everywhere and partnering/co-working.

Who or what inspires YOU?

Almost my idea comes from what the consumer, supplier, client, market and industry needs. What changes or new models can make human life much better in next ten years? Mostly I focus on human resource, education, Internet and so on. I prefer the idea with originality, innovation and deep impact.

How’d you fund this venture? VC? Self-funding? Crowd-funded? Where’d you get the money, man?

It is my own funding to build up the website and few costs on getting outsourced related people. For the last 4 years I have communicated with some VCs in China, Taiwan, USA. They are good to advice me, but initial stage investment.

Got any great bootstrapping tips for the lean startups out there?

Definitely YES, to be market/consumer oriented, simple idea, simple way co-worked with others.

What would you be doing if you had one year off and $500,000 to spend (and you couldn’t spend it on your currently startup / projects)

I want to go travelling around the world and see any kind of investment I can do it with $500,000.

Do you consider yourself a successful entrepreneur right now? If not, what’s it gonna take to make you feel successful?

The best solution/method to sell the product is the key to success.

Website you couldn’t live without and why?

Almost 50% communication done by the Internet, you have to be part of it.

Mobile App you’re in love with and why?

Not finding any good one I like so far.

What’s the greatest thing about your company/website/idea?

I will say it is my idea (brain thinking and eye viewing) from the past to now. Remembering that my first idea was related to friends address book and created by MS Access when it was my last year student life at university in 1998. By that time no one agreed with what I was doing and I said one sentence “You will see how important this will be in the future”. It was totally the same idea as the giant FACEBOOK until I started the startup in 2008 and did some research on what those giant’s initial idea could be.

Where can our readers get ahold of you? Facebook?

Facebook, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and my blog.

Devland is the only [project I have going] at the moment. I am planning to start another one shortly this year and it’s in researching stage.
