The Winchester Star is a local newspaper catering for Virginia’s city of Winchester, and it provides all sorts of news and several in-depth reports on varied topics of local interest. You will not find much international news at this site, rather more community-focused news mainly in text format with the occasional picture, but really little online-only features, which seem to be the norm in other newspapers’ sites, like photo and audio slideshows or videos, plus there are no blogs either –I reckon maybe it’s time to call the news desk and tell them that Web 2.
0 has been around for some time now. Other than the regular sections you’d expect from a local paper, take a look at the Business section to find out about local startups, or the Lifestyle area to learn about social activities, fundraisers and art exhibits opening in Winchester. The archives of the digital version of the paper are available, but they only date back to august 2007. An ePaper version of The Winchester Star is also available, though by paid subscription only; if you are unsure whether this format will work out for you, it could be a good idea to subscribe for the free trial mentioned in the site, though I couldn’t find any links to it. If you’d rather stick to the regular paper issue, you can subscribe or manage your subscription details through the site as well.
