SearsArchives.com – A History Of Corporate Culture

SearsArchives.comSears Archives is a site which will at first glance be appealing for a huge audience: from vintage stuff lovers to social historians, anthropologists and economists, one would regularly think that all forms of curiosity can be quenched at this site, home of a detailed history of this milestone retail chain store, their proprietary brands (some of which have disappeared a long time ago), marketing strategies, and even a very detailed history of catalogues. The site is mainly text-only for the time being, though selected sections carry a few pictures and scans from the company’s catalogues.

The site works really as an archival support for corporate culture, as the original sources are quite scarce, or at least not as comprehensive as one would expect from a site that has the word ‘archive’ in its logo and URL: there is no gallery of catalogue covers, nor a timeline of the company’s logos, and not even a price list sample for different periods of time, let alone a full list of employees of the company or even the most simple way to portray information: a fun fact column. What you’ll find here is more on the side of the biography of the founder of the company and three of the most important corporate officers, questions from eBay merchants wanting to know if the stuff they have is incredibly valuable or not, and other not too interesting stuff.
