The International Atomic Energy Agency is located in Vienna, Austria. It was first established in the year 1957 under the name of “Atoms For Peace”, and it is part of the United Nations family.
The agency has regional offices in a plethora of countries, including the United States, Canada and Japan. Likewise, the IAEA runs research centers and scientific facilities in several locations like Vienna and Monaco. The mission of the Agency is subject to the interests and needs of the Member States that make up the UN, yet there are three central areas of work, namely “Safety & Security”, “Science & Technology”, and “Safeguards & Verification”.
