Annies.com – Business Success the Natural Foods Way

Annie’s started out in 1989 as Annie’s Homegrown, according to annies.com, the website for the company started by Annie Withey and Andrew Martin. The goal of the business partners centered on their desire to make a healthy tasty macaroni and cheese that would be available for sale at grocery stores. The company’s first product items were natural macaroni and cheese dinners sold to local stores and private retailers in New England. Annie’s only used the best organic ingredients, harvested without use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and full of natural flavors to leave consumers feeling good physically and mentally.

Based out of Berkeley, California, as of 2012, Annie’s continues the same vision that Ms. Withey and Mr. Martin originated, even though neither serves in any official capacity in the governance of the company. Annies.com explains that Annie now describes herself as a mom and organic crop grower who lives in Connecticut with her husband and two daughters. She owns an organic farm and grows flowers and vegetables for the co-op and farmers market in her area. In addition to macaroni products, the company that bears her name now sells a long list of items available in natural food and regular supermarkets all over the United States.

The California team now responsible for the vision and growth of Annie’s remains passionate about food, people and the planet earth and strive to ensure the company’s environmental footprint stays small by recycling, composting and making wise energy choices. Active in support of social programs, annies.com outlines how the business regularly donates to the Grants for Gardens program that funds community and school gardens and programs that introduce children to gardening. The food company also provides educational scholarships for sustainable agriculture students.
