Premu Delivers The Social Coupon

Share on:

I love good deals. I just don’t have the patience to find them. Like me, the founders of Premu were dissatisfied with existing online sites designed for the bargain hunter. Too many of the wrong deals to sift through, too much fine print to scrutinize. Premu works with a Facebook account, allowing users to find a wide variety of online coupons. Share deals with family or friends and you’ll also have the chance to win contests and sweepstakes.

Premu had their alpha launch in December, 2011. Since then the startup has seen growth accelerate. Already they’ve spun off Premudeals, a platform to compare insurance quotes and save consumers money. KillerStartups tracked the young company down for more details.

How long have you been involved with the internet? What were your first steps?

Burt [Breznick] & Joe [Britton] have been working in the Internet each for 13 years. Joe started at Ask Jeeves and Burt at Raj [Mistry] started building web applications when studying computer science at UCLA.

What time do you usually start work each day?

Typical day starts at 6:30am.

Do you have an office or work at home?

We use an executive office, and work both in the office and at home.

When do your best ideas come to you?

Our ideas come at different times during the day… One of us could develop an idea during meditation in the afternoon or wake up in the middle of the night with an “aha” moment. However, each idea is put through our collaborative “shark tank” meetings where our team & advisors poke holes in the idea. It’s the ones that survive the tank that get set into motion.

We want to know about where you spend your day! What’s on your desk right now?

Our sales effort is on the phone with clients or in-person meetings, and our analytics side is to have our reading glasses and a strict optimization focus.

What’s your office environment like? Is it the kind of place where everyone is bumping away to house music or is it more traditional?

Peaceful & Productive. We are ready & willing help one another move the project along in anyway possible.

Favorite movie? Band? Vacation Spot?

We listen to Joe’s old band, ISO, while he’s given up the dream that one day he’ll be a rockstar… he holds onto whatever he can.

A lot of people have big ideas. What gave you the confidence to actually put your life on hold and realize yours?

We saw a lot of close people around us build successful companies. When combining that with an exciting new concept, we decided to take the first leap and not turn back.

What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs struggling to get their business off the ground?

Don’t give up unless you absolutely have to. Being an entrepreneur is more about execution than having a truly fabulous idea. Find your niche and move fast.

Who has been your biggest cheerleader throughout this process?

Our family has our support, and they’re patiently waiting for greatness. Therefore, we need to walk the walk.

Any regrets?

Not one. Life is too short to take the easy road. To quote the Grateful Dead, “When life looks easy street, there’s danger at your door.”We also couldn’t agree more with the “regret minimization framework” from Jeff Bezos.

How do you picture your company in 5 years?

We plan on playing a big part in the evolution of social commerce. Expect personalized savings and deals by your side in every store, restaurant, and activity in your life.
