5-Miles.com – Mobile Promotion For Events

5-Miles.comCurrently available for Android (but soon to become available for iOS), 5 Miles is a new geo-collaboration service that lets people share all the coolest events that are taking place where they live. This free app can be used to create messages which are meant to be spread on and on for a period of 24 hours after they have been originally sent out. These messages go by the name of “FiveCasts”, and they are spread in a radius of 5 miles. Any device that is within that range is capable of receiving them, and once that has happened then the person who has received the FiveCast can have it spread further on.

There is no end to the kind of uses this service can be put to. Personally, I can envision people using it to broadcast community events, to announce garage sales, to arrange to get together with friends… And I also think that a service like 5 Miles can be used in emergency situations, to broadcast one’s position and/or to alert all your neighbors about anything that might have happened.

And I feel it’s important to mention that in addition to releasing iPhone and Blackberries apps, the company is going to take the wraps off a web version of 5 Miles shortly.
