Jooklist Playlists Can Be Shared Via Facebook – Founder Shares Story

Youtube is an excellent resource that I find myself on just about every time I’m connected. One of the reasons I enjoy YouTube is the ability to check out music that I might now already have in my collection. Jooklist is a startup that allows users to create playlists and share them via Facebook.

It’s a great idea that the folks at Jooklist are diligently working on. There’s definitely passion here and it’ll be interesting to see how things continue to develop.

Recently, we had an interview with the founder of Jooklist and here’s what they shared with us:

How’d you come up with the name for your company?

Well, the main function of the site is similar to the one of a jukebox and it has playlists. So by combining them you get jukelist, a domain which was already taken but since it was the only normal name I came up with i settled with jooklist.

What’s the very first thing you do at work everyday?

I put on my headphones and start listening to music because it helps me concentrate.

How many people did you start the company with and how many people work for you now?

Right now, it’s just me at the controls.

Remember the early days starting up? Maybe you can share one anecdote that describe the struggle you went through?

Well, early on I wanted to create a website. Basically, since I first started university. I had some ideas but zero knowledge but I kept saying to myself “I’ll start tomorrow.” I finally started after the first semester’s exams. So about five months ago

I learned the basics of web programming and after that it was just endless hours in front of the computer coding and doing Google searches.

So how do you handle frustration?

I dealt with frustration every time I wanted to add a feature to the site because my lack of experience made it really hard, but the fact that I found it difficult and still managed to add it made me even more excited, happy, and motivated to go on. So every time I faced a problem I knew that I would finally find a way around it and get to that awesome feeling, therefore I kept on trying.

What’s your office environment like?

I’ve only worked from my house where my university is located and in my hometown, so nothing special, ha.

And how do you picture your company in 5 years?

I would like it to be the main destination for people who want to listen and explore music. I’d also love to have some experienced people working with me.

Who or what inspires you?

I’m inspired by people who love what they do and who do it passionately no matter what it is. I also enjoy playing a video game called DotA. I used to spend endless hours on it but because of my startup I remembered this quote “ask yourself this question ‘Will this matter a year from now’?” by Richard Carlson and Time by Pink Floyd I no longer play nearly as much. I don’t regret playing a lot in the past though because my friends and I had such a good time playing it.

How’d you fund this venture?

The only thing I needed money for was hosting so I could handle it.

What would you be doing if you had one year off and $500,000 to spend?

Travel around the world.

Do you consider yourself a successful entrepreneur right now?

I just created a site so no, I don’t consider myself a successful entrepreneur. I will if I manage to make a living out of something I created.

Website you couldn’t live without and why?

Google. I can’t imagine myself not being able to find anything I want, from anywhere I want anytime I want. Furthermore Google is the main reason I was able to create the site.

Mobile App you’re in love with and why?

My phone is a sony ericsson w302 so the only “app” i love is the alarm clock.

iOS or Android?

What’s the greatest thing about your idea?

I think it’s the top playlists that are made out of the iTunes charts and the ability to view your Facebook friend’s playlists.
