Startup one-liner:

Mobile Game Developer

Problem the startup solves:

For my first game :

There are a few sliding puzzle games out there and the gameplay is meh and the visuals too. The rare and beautiful ones can only be found online.

I pushed what can be done with a sliding puzzle game to its limit.

The game is in 2K with cute visuals, there is an interesting story and different modes in which you have to be fast to solve them.

Progress and current status:

The startup is not even created, it’s still a wish. I want to open a gaming studio; it’s my dream, but first, people need to be interested in the game I’m creating for me to earn money through it once it’s launched. Only then will I be able to have enough money to secure my game developer name and open my studio.

I’ve created a kickstarter campaign (link on my website) asking for just enough money to create this game. With a bit of luck, maybe a lot of people will be interested in this campaign, and I will earn more than necessary and use what’s left to open my studio quicker.

What is a crazy story about the startup?:

Here’s my story :

Almost 10 years ago, someone told me : “If you can create a mobile game, you’ll earn money quickly and easily”.

At the time I wasn’t busy or anything so I started doing it.

I decided what kind of game I wanted to create (a puzzle one) and I then looked for a game making software and I found Unity and Unreal (the biggest software known for creating games)… no I’m kidding, as the noob I was, I must have searched for “Game Maker” on Google and found, well, Game Maker from Yoyo Games… yeah. *facepalm*

Anyway, that software was mostly used to create RPG games, the ones in which you control a character and usually have to fight monsters or people.

You think it would stop me right ? Not even close, I saw this as a challenge… hahaha…

So, I start my quest of earning money quickly (he thinks he found THE BIG thing lol)
I start using what is called visual scripting for the logic of the game. As its name implies, you don’t have to know how to code, all is visual. You plug “boxes” to other ones and it does the trick. But after several months, I realize I’m quite limited in what I can do.

That’s why I start using non-visual scripting : coding (what?).

I learn while continuing working on the game.

Several months pass by and… I start to LOVE it ! There are times when I just want to go home to continue working on it. I can’t wait to… code !

My quest “Earn money quickly” starts to become “Finish my first game”.

To all the coders out there, you know what ? There were a lot of repetition in my code ! 😃 (to the other ones, it’s not pretty, your code must be as short as possible and therefore efficient and therefore without repeated portions of code).

But hey, I was a noob, there were repeated portions of code everywhere 😃

After one year, the game was ready !

I do the necessary stuff to put the game on the Google Play Store and upload it and wait for Google to validate the game.

And…

I receive a message saying : “Hey… you’re using copyrighted materials here and you don’t seem to have the rights to them (tell us if we are wrong) we can’t therefore accept your game. Do the necessary modifications and submit it to us again”.

Haa the joy of incompetency… =’)

Me ? I just found images on internet and used them. Copyright ? What’s that ? Pfff… Who needs that ? …hahahahaha…

Did I tell you my game was a puzzle one ? I mean in a puzzle game there are, well, pretty much only images…

I took my PC and sent it flying through my window. I’m kidding. I just gave up.

Like they say, it’s the journey that matters, not the destination right ? right… ? =’)
Time went by and I did other things.

But around one year ago, I thought about how much I loved creating games and I wanted to try it again, so I did.

I worked on a version 2 of that very same game (I bought all the copyrights of the world this time 😃). I added more features, updated the visuals, added an interesting story, made it better in almost every way possible and there are no repeated portions of code this time 😉.

What is a company the startup looks up to, and why?:

I look up to Epic Games. I love their vision of the future : technology accessible to everyone. That’s how everything should be for the human race to move forward and for people with ideas to be able to create them. By the way, thanks to them, I will be able to create beautiful games in the future, thanks Epic Games 🙏.

The company in four years will be…

I plan on releasing at least two more games. A strategic one like Starcraft/Age Of Empire (with funny and dumb stuff, haha) and one MMOARPG like Tera, in which you will have to really aim for your skill to reach what you’re aiming for (a lot of games don’t do that). In Genshin Impact and many others, you are given the impression you have to aim, but the mob is already chosen as your target, so even if your aim is off, you won’t miss. It’s nice because it allows everyone to be able to play, even people who normally don’t play games like that but I won’t do that for my game. There will be at least one mechanic nobody thought about too (<- it sounds impossible, but it is not).

The strategic game will probably launch in 2 years.

In 4 years, I will have a team of people and myself working on this MMOARPG.
