Timo Bahr – Founder

Startup one-liner:

Just open the app, read your meter, and boom, you know the costs of electricity, heating and water.

Problem the startup solves:

Rising prices are becoming a problem for many households. My app creates a sensitivity to one’s own consumption. That’s good for the climate and good for your wallet.

Progress and Current Status:

App was initially published December 2020 for Android (iOS was added one month later) and number of users grows steadily. Right now 100k+ downloads, 10k daily active users and a growing community. Next step is to found the company behind the app.

What is an Inspiring Story about the Startup?:

I never took money from anyone for this app or paid something from my private money. It’s a fully organic app growth with very satisfied and enthusiastic users. Users can decide what I develop for them next through a feature survey. Based on individual feedback, I can indeed deduce that the app leads to a decrease in consumption among households. For me, the app is therefore my climate project, with which I can make the world a little greener.

What is a Company the Startup Looks Up to, and Why?:

Common practice is for electricity suppliers to purchase electricity in advance and then issue a price guarantee. The model has worked well for a long time, but in the last year prices have been very volatile. Tibber already offers its customers electricity contracts where the hourly price is paid. In most cases, this allows customers to purchase electricity much more cheaply, and Tibber finances itself only through the base fee. They have managed to “penetrate” an extremely conservative market with a disruptive concept, which at the same time brings benefits for end customers.

The Company in Four Years Will Be…

The market is now also changing in Germany, slowly of course as usual. Electricity and gas meters will soon transmit consumption data completely automatically. EHW+ will then no longer be a meter reading app, but an consumption evaluation app. The integration of smart devices such as heating thermostats and electricity meters further improves the evaluation. The once-a-year utility bill will certainly still be common in five years. But thanks to EHW+, you already have a daily projection and there are no more nasty surprises.
