UltimateChart.com – The Future Of Music Charts

UltimateChart.comIt was obviously a matter of time. In the same way that the standing of publications like Rolling Stone and NME has been sort of compromised by blogging platforms, the status quo of something like music charts had to be challenged sometime.

Well, that time is now. The Ultimate Chart is a new initiative that aims to become the true music chart for the Internet age, no less.

In order to make that objective come true, the site measures the popularity of songs over the whole Social Web. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube… these are the basic services that are taken into account, and they are joined by several others such as MTV.com and the iTunes store.

By not stopping its analysis at mere radio plays and music sales, The Ultimate Chart hopes to update the way in which the popularity of contemporary music is measured. The truth be said, the results were not that wildly different to the ones actually featured on Billboard when I tried the site out. But the concept is very interesting, and as a big lover of music I am keeping an eye on it to see where it’s taken from here.
