Goo.gl – Google Releases Its Official URL Shortener

Goo.glThe title of this review says it all, really. Goo.

gl is a URL shortener that comes from no other than Google. It will let you do what (until now) you have been doing using services such as Bit.ly: take links and have them trimmed and shared straightaway

All the URLs that are shortened via Goo.gl are public by nature, and so are their click analytics. These can be seen and shared by just anybody. Everything is public: the original, “long” URL, the date when it was created, the traffic that it has generated…

And a platform for shortening URLs that is backed by Google puts a definitive end to one of the most common worries of people when they are halving their links for sharing them all over the Social Web. I am talking about the fear of the service going out of business and bringing all the links that had been created down with it. That is something you just know it won’t happen if you use Goo.gl as your default shortener.
